Dragon Age: The Veilguard

The Cabin in the Blight

By
Nathan Garvin

The blight infecting the Hossberg Wetlands is a persistent and dire threat to all who remain, Grey Warden or not. While few have proven as competent at dealing with the blight as Rook and company, many contribute in their own ways, including local physicians, who attempt to treat mild symptoms of blight exposure in their patients and brave the darkspawn-haunted swamps in search of supplies. When the lead physician goes missing, Rook is called upon to search for them, or failing that, their precious medical supplies. This page will provide a walkthrough for the side quest "The Cabin in the Blight" iconThe Cabin in the Blight in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Page Breakdown

Starting The Cabin in the Blight

Complete The Siege of Weisshaupt and afterwards you’ll be back at The Lighthouse, tasked with talking to various companions and Solas as part of the minor quest After the Storm. During this quest (or any time afterwards) search the Library to find a Letter Sealed with a Grey Warden Seal, and this scroll from Evka will mention a local physician. Reading this will start the quest The Cabin in the Blight. After you’ve finished your obligatory round of chatter in The Lighthouse, fast-travel back to the Hossberg Wetlands.

(1 of 3) During the quest “After the Storm”, read the scroll “Letter Sealed with a Grey Warden Seal” to start this quest,

Talk to the Physician’s Apprentice

First things first, travel to Lavendel and talk to the physician’s apprentice, Flynn, who will tell you that he’s short on supplies and, from the sound of things, could use the extra hands. To get both he’ll ask you to visit his master, Oskar, in his cabin.

If you’ve explored the Hossberg Wetlands to any serious degree, you’ve probably been thwarted by various blight-growths that defy any of the ordinary attempts to cleanse them. This blight often hides treasure chests, and the secret to clearing them is simple - quest progression. The Cabin in the Blight is quite possibly the first demonstration you’ll get of previously unclearable blight becoming vulnerable once their quest immunity is removed, as the cabin you seek is one such blighted structure. You’ll find it a good ways to the south, in the Solitude’s Edge area. If you’ve unlocked the fast travel beacon nearby, be sure to use it, as it’ll greatly shorten this trip.

Investigate the Physician’s Cabin

Assuming you arrive via the beacon, head upstairs to find the cabin, surrounded by (now destructible) blight and a pair of burster darkspawn. Kill the enemies and circle around to the eastern edge of the cabin to find a blight cyst. Pop it, then find another blight cyst on a cliff to the northwest of the cabin and once both cysts are gone the blight blocking the door (on the western edge of the cabin) will become vulnerable.

Cut yourway inside and search a table shortly beyond the door to claim some Blue Buttons (+50 Caretaker Power), then examine various table to find evidence of Oskar’s whereabouts - specifically, read the Physician’s Notebook on a desk in the northeasternmost room to find a note about some “Brona’s Bloom” plants Oskar needed. The blighted corpse on the bed makes it clear that, yes, past-tense is appropriate here, but perhaps Oskar is still alive out there somewhere, looking fruitlessly for a reagent that can no longer save his beloved?

(1 of 4) Pop a pair of bursters near the cabin,

Search for the Physician

Leave the cabin and note you’ve got three search objectives:

  • Atop the tower to the southwest.
  • To the southeast, stay in the low ground and head towards Gaspin Manor, passing under a bridge.
  • To the northwest in the Swamp Road area,

You don’t need to bother searching all three spots - the southeastern and southwestern objectives are duds, so head northwest and take the zipline to bypass the low ground and most of the darkspawn (otherwise you’ll have to face some ghouls, a Hurlock and a javelineer - nothing serious). Either take the zipline to save time or work your way through the swamp and up some ledges and stairs to find another javelineer near your objective. Thrash it, then investigate the body to confirm Oskar’s fate and recover whatever materials he had gathered before his demise.

(1 of 2) You’ll encounter surprisingly little darkspawn opposition, especially if you take the zipline from the cabin.

You’ll encounter surprisingly little darkspawn opposition, especially if you take the zipline from the cabin. (left), Defeat what little darkspawn stand in your way and check a corpse to confirm Oskar’s demise. (right)

Return to Flynn in Lavendel to give him the news and supplies and this quest will end… after a bit of optional chatter. You’ll gain 1,750 EXP, the "Reinforced Binding" iconReinforced Binding belt and +200 Grey Wardens Strength for your troubles.
