During your exploration of The Crossroads in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you’ll come across many gates that are seemingly impassable. As you’ll eventually learn, you need the essence of a Champion somewhere in Thedas to unseal the gate and explore the area beyond it. Your task, then, is to locate this Champion in each area, defeat them, and then bring their essence back. The Gate of Lost Ages relates to the Champion in Dock Town, keep reading to learn where to find and defeat it, along with what rewards you can expect.

Gate of Lost Ages Quest Location

The Gate of Lost Ages is technically the earlier ones to locate in The Crossroads, and perhaps the easiest to complete, even if the arena you fight the Champion in can be tricky. As you explore the first area, the Converged City, you’ll reach a hub of sorts that initially has enemies to clear out, but when you return, will be full of Spirits that sell their wares. If you look in the northwest corner of this hub, you’ll find the locked gate that will begin the quest when you approach it.

Gate of Lost Ages Champion Location

Much like the Champion for the Gate of Deep Sorrows quest, you can access this Champion as soon as you gain access to exploration in Dock Town, after the "Shadows of Minrathous" iconShadows of Minrathous quest. Once you’ve done this, return to Dock Town to track down the Champion.

(1 of 2) Head to the Lost Company Mine area to the north of Dock Town.

The area you’re looking for is to the far north of Dock Town, named Lost Company Mine, and you’ll come right by this area if you’re in the middle of the In Memoriam quest. You’ll find a Fen’harel Altar here and, upon activating it, a slope will appear leading down to the bottom. Head down there, clear out the Undead and then, when you’re ready, burst that Cyst to get the battle underway.

Quyn the Sparkwielder Boss Guide

Quyn is Level 20, the lowest of any of the Champions found throughout Thedas, so you may want to make this the first one you take out. Don’t get complacent though, as even though Quyn is only Level 20, you really don’t have much room to maneuver in down here, so pay attention to your surroundings at all times. Like all Darkspawn, Quyn is weak to Fire but resistant to Necrotic damage, so try to avoid Lucanis if you can and, if you have him already, use Davrin (along with Neve or Bellara). On top of this, given the name, Quyn is also Electric Imbued, meaning you’ll want to avoid that too. Quyn has many attacks available to him, which you can learn about below:

Melee Combo

Quyn’s melee combo will see him slam the ground around him before taking a swipe, which will hit an arc in front of him. This is his most common attack and something that you should be able to deal with by simply creating some distance or timing some Perfect Defense if you’re confident.

(1 of 2) Quyn has the usual Ogre melee combo, Perfect Defense works great here.

Thunderbolts

Quyn will pound the ground, causing Thunderbolts to shoot across in a line AoE where he’s aiming. Not only will this deal heavy damage if you’re struck by it, but it will also electrify the water nearby, so be careful where you’re standing after it. Quyn can, and will frequently, use this up to three times at once, severally limiting where you can stand.

Electrical Charge

Quyn will charge himself with Electrical energy and charge toward you, usually after his Thunderbolts attack. This is easy to avoid if you see it coming and he will usually hit a wall in the process, giving you time to get some free attacks in.

Electrical Leap

Quyn will target an area and then leap over to it, causing Electrical damage upon impact and leaving bolts of lightning around the center in its wake that will cause damage if you come into contact with it. This is another attack that is simple to avoid, just keep an eye for the large AoE marker and create some distance.

(1 of 3) Quyn will coat himself in electricity and charge at you.

Thunderstorm

Quyn will place his hand on the ground and cause Electrical bolts to hit various areas, one after the other. This can be deadly if you let it play out, so when you see him place his hand down, rush over and attack him to knock him out of the attack with a Charged Attack or Knock Down.

Quyn the Sparkwielder Boss Strategy

As mentioned above, Quyn can feel like a bit of a trap, as knowing that he’s the lowest Level Champion may lead you into a false sense of security, when in actual fact, he can be the toughest if you’re not careful. You really don’t have much space to move into at all, and Quyn will spend a lot of time giving you even less with all of his attacks leaving Electrical energy that causes you to take damage whenever you’re standing near it.

If you’ve obtained any accessories that grant you a Revival Charge by now, be sure to equip them on your companions and pay attention to the health jars if you need to refill them. Staying close to Quyn is perhaps your best course of action and dealing with his melee attacks, Perfect Defense works the best here as you’ll often find yourself dodging into the electricity all over the place.

As with most difficult encounters, being able to Combo at will makes your life easier, as it will cause some slowdown so you can get some free attacks in (aside from dealing heavy damage itself). Quyn, moreso than any other Champion, asks patience of you and to not try and be too aggressive when there are no safe spots to stand.

(1 of 2) Take your time with Quyn and only move in on him when it’s safe to do so.

Gate of Lost Ages Rewards

Now that you have the Champion’s Essence in your hands, loot the nearby chest and then return to the gate at the Crossroads to unseal it. This will end the quest and grant you access to the area beyond, where you’ll find multiple chests (and Venatori), Altars, and one of the Wolf Statuettes needed for the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest.
