By
Ben Chard

One of the more difficult Achievements/Trophies to obtain in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the Bringing Down the Sky one. This requires you to hunt four specific High Dragons across Thedas. It’s important to note that there are more than these four specific dragons, only they won’t count towards this goal. Keep reading to learn more about these High Dragons and where you can find them.

All High Dragon Locations

As specified in the above paragraph, there are more than these four specific High Dragons in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and although you’ll get the message “High Dragon Defeated”, it won’t count toward this Achievement/Trophy unless it’s one of these four specific ones. Three of them will come from Taash’s companion questline, which is understandable, as it fits their role as a Dragon Slayer. The other one will come from another difficult side quest that provides its own Achievement/Trophy for completing it.

The Formless One High Dragon

This is technically the earliest of the four High Dragons you can face off against, but it may be too difficult to complete it as soon as you get it. You’ll need to accept the Pinnacle of its Kind Quest in the Necropolis Halls, this becomes available once you unlock the region for exploration in Act 1. This quest tasks you with heading out to Dock Town, Arlathan Forest, and the Hossberg Wetlands to kill a different version of The Formless One.

Once they are defeated, return to the door in the Necropolis Halls where you accepted the quest to gain entry and fight The Formless One in it’s dragon form. This is a Level 40 dragon with some nasty tricks up its sleeve, although like most dragon fights, you have a large arena in which to fight it in. If you want to learn how to take it down, check out our guide above for a more in-depth look at the fight and the quest. Don’t forget to obtain A Second Circle Memento in one of the side rooms after if you wish to unlock the secret ending.

Fangscorcher

This is the first of three High Dragons that you’ll fight as part of Taash’s companion questline in Act 2. You’ll need to accept the Slaying the Fangscorcher quest, this becomes available after the Fire and Ice main quest around the midpoint of Act 2. With Taash an one other companion, you’ll return to a new part of Arlathan Forest, the Deep Woods, to track the dragon.

Once again, this is fought in a large area and unlike The Formless One, you won’t have to deal with it calling in additional enemies throughout the battle. Instead, as you reach certain health thresholds with it, it will retreat to the back of the arena and used fire blasts from the sky and long flaming beams that are simple to avoid. If you want to learn how to take it down in more depth, check out our quest guide here.

Kataranda the Stormrider

Continuing Taash’s companion questline, the next one is Kataranda the Stormrider and the quest of the same name can be accepted by examining a letter in their quarters in The Lighthouse, this points you to The Hall of Valor. You may remember a similar Electric High Dragon from earlier in the game, where the Antaam were trying to capture it in Rivain while recruiting them.

While this Electric-type High Dragon shouldn’t cause too many issues, you will have to pay attention to the area that you’re fighting in. Seeing that you’re fighting on a beach and the water all around you, Kataranda will make use of this chance to electrify it when it retreats. As such, be careful where you go to dodge its attacks and you should be fine otherwise. If you want to learn how to take it down in more depth, check out our Kataranda the Stormrider quest guide.

Kaltenzahn

This is the last High Dragon that you need for the Bringing Down the Sky Achievement/Trophy and as expected, is the last part of Taash’s Companion questline. You’ll once again accept the Lair of the Dragon King quest in The Lighthouse and this will take you to an exclusive part of Rivain, the Sharksmouth Caves which has long alluded you in your quest to explore all of the areas.

While this is the toughest of the three dragons you fight in Taash’s questline, it’s not as difficult as the Formless One, which can be considered the most difficult out of the four. Don’t let the area fool you, Kaltenzahn is actually weak to Ice, so someone like Neve is a useful Companion to bring along with you for the quest. The biggest issue with this battle is the fog that Kaltenzahn can conjure with you, making it difficult to see what’s going on. If you want to learn how to take down the final High Dragon, read our Lair of the Dragon King quest guide.

There you have it; you now know who the four High Dragons are, needed for the Bringing Down the Sky Trophy/Achievement, and where to find them.
